MESSI CLOSE TO SIGNING NEW BARCELONA CONTRACT

It just keeps getting better and better for Barcelona fans, as reports are currently claiming that their captain Lionel Messi is getting close to signing a new contract at the club. Messi has long had a huge question mark over his future at the Camp Nou in recent months and there have been a lot of speculation about his long-term stay with the Catalan giants after it emerged that he was keen to seal a move away from the Spanish La Liga giants.

Following his outburst last summer that he was tired of the club and that he wanted to leave, he started attracting interest from French Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and English Premier League side Manchester City; two of the very few clubs that can afford his transfer fee and wages. Since the emergence of the reports that were lining him up for a possible exit from Barcelona, a lot of people, including fans, his present, and past teammates, and even rival players have been tipping him to remain at Barca and even end his career there.

It looks as though he may have yielded to the plea of the fans, with football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming that the Argentine superstar will be signing on the dotted lines in a few days. Messi is currently with the Argentina squad and is hoping to help his country win the ongoing Copa America tournament before returning to club duties in August and he has been doing his best to that effect.

The details about the contract he is set to sign at Barcelona are yet to be revealed and may be kept secret until after it is officially done and announced. It’s exciting times for Barca fans as the club are beginning to show how serious they are to fight for major titles next season following the signings of several players and the imminent tying down of Messi to a new contract.
