I think Ronaldo deserved the Ballon d’Or this year, but I will never ever
enjoy seeing him play as much as Messi.
I think Ronaldo deserved it because he looks like he’s trying so hard. He
spends so much time in the gym, his face is angry and determined when he
plays, his celebrations are pre-rehearsed. He looks like a man to whom
football is the most important thing in the world.
Football isn’t the most important thing in the world. It’s supposed to be
fun, and when Messi plays he looks like he’s enjoying himself. His
celebrations are either wildly excited or just smiles and congratulations
to his team-mates. His playing style is so natural and well-suited to
football – as in he’s not just some athlete. Whether he’s dribbling,
heading or kicking it, the ball goes where he wants it to go to the nearest
millimetre.
Awards don’t make you better at football. I think Messi knows that more
than Ronaldo. I would be happy for Ronaldo to win every Ballon d’Or for the
next five years – the guy is amazing, he deserves them – just so long as
Messi just stays fun to watch.
The man can do whatever he wants! He said he wanted to improve his weaker
foot and heading, and the results are incredible! He’s getting more
complete as he ages. For me, the greatest of all time.

as natural as his left. But with his abnormally genius brain, he can just
make it good anyway.
